My Year of Saying No by Maxine Morrey

Today is my stop on the Blog Tour for this brilliant new release from Maxine Morrey. Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to join the tour and to Boldwood books for my copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description

Lottie Wentworth has never been more pleased to hear Big Ben ring in the new year and wave goodbye to The Year of Saying Yes!

When a long-term relationship ended, her best friend’s scheme to get Lottie back in the swing of things seemed like a good idea. She’s kept her promise to Jess to see it through but, as a lover of the quiet life, Lottie couldn’t be happier to say hello to a brand new year – The Year of Saying No!
Unfortunately, the one thing she still seems unable to say no to is the crush she has on her best client and now friend, Army veteran, Seb Marshall. But she’s working on it, and with rescue dog Humphrey at her side, she knows that she’ll manage just fine.
Lottie’s decision to stop trying to please everyone has brought a sense of relief beyond what she had expected. Her actions and determination have also begun to send ripples throughout her life and those closest to her, bringing about changes none of them could have expected.

But will all those changes be for the good?

My Review
This is a simply wonderful read that I enjoyed from beginning to end.
Lottie Wentworth has made a big decision that this year will be her year of saying no, this is due to the previous year she made a pact with her best friend Jess, that she would say yes to everything. This took her completely out of her comfort zone and saw her going on some pretty hideous dates.
So with her year of saying no ahead of her Lottie is excited to feel as though she is in control again and is determined not to feel guilty about saying no either.
Lottie has also made the decision that she needs a dog in her life so she heads to her local rescue sanctuary and now has a trust sidekick in Humphrey by her side.
The one person she will not be saying no to is her favourite client, the incredibly handsome, Seb Marshall. Seb is a veteran who runs a charity that Lottie is a virtual PA for. Lottie has had a crush on Seb from the moment that she first met him. This year sees her spending more time with him and their relationship becomes more of a friendship than a working one.
With her year ahead of her and her blossoming friendship with Seb could this be the year of decisions that will truly make Lottie happy, or will the changes in her be cause too many problems?
I think it is fair to say that is going to be a very interesting year.
This is such a brilliant read and I could not put it down.
I loved the writing style, it flowed well, and the suspense of the will they won't they between Lottie and Seb will keep you guessing right up until the end.
The character of Lottie was fun to get to know. It becomes clear as you read through the book the heartache she has felt in the past and why this could be holding back. She has wonderful relationships with those around her. She is close to her family and I loved getting to know her best friend Jess, and how much they both supported each other despite how different they both were.
The character of Seb was interesting to get to know. He likes to keep his past to himself and still blames himself for many of the things that have happened to him in his past. he does really care about those around him which is clear to see.
It was a real treat to read about all of the adventures and trips they all had together.
This is a brilliant read from Maxine Morrey and one that you will not be disappointed you purchased.

About the Author

Maxine has wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember and wrote her first (very short) book for school when she was ten.

As years went by, she continued to write, but 'normal' work often got in the way. She has written articles on a variety of subjects, as well as a local history book on Brighton. However, novels are her first love.
In August 2015, she won Harper Collins/Carina UK's 'Write Christmas' competition with her first romantic comedy, 'Winter's Fairytale'.
Maxine lives on the south coast of England, and when not wrangling with words loves to read, sew and listen to podcasts. Being a fan of tea and cake means she can (should!) also be found doing something vaguely physical at the gym.
