Second Chances in Chianti by T.A. Williams

Today I am excited to share my review of this sunshine filled new release from T.A. Williams. Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to join in with this Publication Day Push, and for my copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description

Alice thought her future was set in stone, until her past came knocking...

Alice Butler starred in a successful US sitcom until tensions in the cast and crew caused the show to be cancelled. Now, five years later and working towards her dream job in art history, she’s called back for a revival of the show. It can only end in disaster, surely?

Flown to a villa in Chianti to meet with the rest of the cast, Alice must decide where her future lies – with her boyfriend, David, who laps up the Hollywood company, or with the mysterious Matt, who shies away from public attention?

My Review
This is such a wonderful Italian adventure that I loved from beginning to end.
Alice Butler has just qualified as an Art Historian and is about to embark on career of her dreams.
This hasn't always been the job that Alice enjoyed doing though as five years ago she was a big success in an American Sitcom which was hugely popular. Alice believes she has put that part of her past behind her when out of the blue an email lands in her inbox. Alice is being offered the chance to head back to America and star in the new series of the sitcom that is be made. Alice is undecided as to which way to move forward with her life, so she decides to head to the meeting in Italy to discover just what the plans are and who else will be recast too.
Alice arrives at the beautiful villa in Chianti and immediately falls in love with the historic villa and the surrounding area.
Alice is thoroughly enjoying her stay in Italy especially as her boyfriend David has come out with her and they have extended their holiday so they can explore more of what Italy has to offer them.
Alice decides while she is away that she has more than one decision to make after meeting up with a very handsome local Matt and being around Harry again Alice is not sure where her future will take her. What will Alice decide?
This was such a great read that is perfect for some much needed escapism.
I really enjoy the writing style of this book it flows well and gives you a wonderful insight into the culture and history in Chianti, not to mention all of the delicious sounding food that will definitely make your mouth water.
I enjoyed getting to know Alice. She has had such a varied past but one thing is for sure she is very hard working and is determined to succeed. It is interesting getting to know more about the relationship Alice has with David too.
This book is sunshine filled and is ready to sweep you away for some fun and romance.
Another wonderful release from T.A. Williams.

About the Author

I’m a man. And a pretty old man as well. I did languages at university a long time ago and then lived and worked in France and Switzerland before going to Italy for seven years as a teacher of English. My Italian wife and I then came back to the UK with our little daughter (now long-since grown up) where I ran a big English language school for many years. We now live in a sleepy little village in Devonshire. I’ve been writing almost all my life but it was only seven years ago that I finally managed to find a publisher who liked my work enough to offer me my first contract.

The fact that I am now writing romantic comedy is something I still find hard to explain. My early books were thrillers and historical novels. Maybe it’s because there are so many horrible things happening in the world today that I feel I need to do my best to provide something to cheer my readers up. My books provide escapism to some gorgeous locations, even if travel to them is currently difficult.

The Night We Met by Zoe Folbigg

Today is my stop on the Blog Tour for this emotional love story from Zoe Folbigg. Thank you to the team at Aria for inviting me to join the tour, and for my copy of the ebook and paperback in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description

As a man holds his wife's frail hand, he recounts a journey like no other...

Daniel and Olivia are destined to be together. At least, Daniel thinks this the night he sees Olivia across a sea of people. As he backpacks through Australia, Daniel and Liv continue to cross paths, yet never speak. Until one night, Liv joins Daniel for a drink. And that night everything changes.

Back in London, stuck in a monotonous routine, Daniel finds himself daydreaming of the woman with green eyes and fiery hair. Armed with only a name he vows to find her, yet with every passing moment, Daniel's hopes begin to disappear. What if it wasn't meant to be?

But then fate steps in, and Daniel and Olivias story can truly begin...

This is a tale of serendipity, missed chances and the power of love.

My Review
This was such a powerful, romantic and emotional read that I simply adored and could not put down.
I loved the adventure of the love story between Daniel and Olivia and how much they were able to share with each other. The attraction between the pair of them is apparent from the first time they meet and its wonderful to read about the two of them as continue to keeping meeting each other by accident while they are both travelling.
In their relationship it becomes clear as you read just how much they both love each other and even when things get tough for the pair their love carries them through and they come out even stronger.
The writing style of the book is engaging and I really enjoyed all of the different settings around the world that appear in this book especially Italy which is the perfect setting for romance.
There are some incredibly sad and emotional parts within the book which will really bring a tear to your eye but there are many happy moments which will lift you back up again too.
This is such a wonderful, poignant, heartbreaking, romantic and completely uplifting story that stays with you long after you have turned the last page.
This is definitely a five star read and one you will not want to miss.

Read on for an extract.

Nancy stopped plumping up the pillows behind her daughter’s head and froze.

‘I’ll go refill that water jug,’ she said, fussing and distracting herself from the water welling up in her eyes.

Olivia and Daniel watched Nancy walk into the corridor with the half-empty Britax jug, her gaze firmly on the nurses’ station ahead of her, the cooler next to it with its blue button offering the cold water Olivia preferred. Nancy liked to keep busy.

Daniel frowned, his dark brows lowering over soft, khaki-coloured eyes.

‘You do! I’m going to get us more time.’

‘With what, spinach and apple juice?!’ Olivia had a mutinous look, but she tried to go easy on Daniel. ‘Really Dan—’

‘But I read a case study of one woman in Albuquerque or somewhere, she had it worse than you and they trialled this drug on her, plus changing her—’

‘Daniel!’ Olivia shot. Silencing him as she always could.

Nancy walked back in with the water jug as Fraser finished tending to Dionne, who was far from a diva in her silent curtained chamber. The caustic colour of his pale eyes brightened a little.

‘Ah! Lady Spencer!’ Fraser smiled.

‘Good evening Fraser,’ Nancy replied.

Fraser nodded to Olivia. ‘I’ll be back in a wee while with your Keppra meds, just heading to the men’s ward, see what those ne’er do wells are up to…’

Nancy looked flustered.

‘I’ll leave you lovebirds to it then,’ Nancy said, a flush in her cheeks. As she said it, she didn’t recall the first time she uttered those words to Olivia and Daniel, at the threshold of a light and bright apartment in a bourgeois district of Milan. Daniel remembered though. He could never forget the feelings of awkwardness and hope – even if he hadn’t just seen them in Fraser. ‘I’d better get back to Maria and the girls, make sure they’re ready for “Back To School”,’ she said, making her fingers into inverted commas, as if it were a new holiday she didn’t approve of. ‘Honestly, the fuss in town today and having to have “new this” and “new that”,’ Nancy wittered, still keeping busy. She re-tied her silk neckerchief and smoothed down her tailored trousers, before kissing Olivia’s cheek and squeezing Daniel’s shoulder.

‘Say hi to Mamma for me,’ Olivia said. Olivia Messina was a curious case of having had two mothers from the day she was born.

‘Of course,’ Nancy replied. ‘She’ll come see you in the morning.’

Olivia smiled.

‘Love you,’ Nancy said, towards the air between them both.

‘See you back at home,’ Daniel answered.

Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace by Kate Forster

Today is my stop on the Blog Tour for this heartwarming new release from Kate Forster. Thank you to the team at Aria for inviting me to take part in the tour, and for my copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description

Love comes when you least expect it...

Tressa Buckland likes her quiet life in Port Lowdy, with its cobbled streets and colourful terraced houses overlooking the sea. Her job at the local paper allows her to pursue her art in her free time, with no one but her tabby cat Ginger Pickles to mind her in Mermaid Terrace. But then the owner of the paper is called away on an emergency, and it's up to Tressa to run the paper for six months. Her first task: find a new part-time journalist.

Dan Byrne is the angriest man in Ireland – or so the readers of his very successful column, 'Dan takes on the world', think. But after a story goes south and he loses his job in Dublin, Dan has no choice but to start afresh. When an opportunity comes up in sleepy Cornwall, Dan and his Golden Retriever Ritchie set off for a new adventure.

For Tressa, Dan's arrival to Port Lowdy changes everything. Tressa tries not to look too deeply at her own life, but Dan sees a story to uncover in absolutely everyone – even her. The two of them couldn't be more different... yet, if they can find a way to work together, they may just breathe new life and joy into this sleepy seaside village.

Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace is a heartwarming new village romance about the power of love and kindness, from the bestselling author of Starting Over at Acorn Cottage.

My Review
I adored reading this book and could not put it down.
The setting of this book in the sleepy Cornish village of Port Lowdy sounds like the perfect place to go and relax, escape normal life and just watch the world go by.
The writing style of the book flows well and really engages you into the story and the lives of all of the community.
I really enjoyed getting to know Tressa. She is strong minded and enjoys her life just the way it is. I loved the quirkiness of her home and you also understand why she is making her life so different from her family.
Dan is escaping to Cornwall from Dublin after a disaster at work. The Cornish Newspaper could not be more different that what he is used to but he needs a break and the sleepy Cornish village could be just what he needs.
This is such a lovely, heart warming and uplifting read that is perfect for the springtime.

An Extract

Mermaid Terrace was her heaven, a stone terrace house with a bay window that looked out over the few fishing boats left over from a previous era. She had bought it with money her grandmother left her. She often wondered if her grandmother had understood how difficult it was to grow up under the mothering of Wendy Buckland. Her parents’ house was so grand and so perfect that people stopped to take photos of it. Inside, it was impossible to put down a glass or a mug without a coaster appearing from somewhere. Tressa used to wonder if her mother had a holster of them ready to fling at anyone from ten yards like a cowboy, protecting the heavy furniture from unsightly water rings.

As she rode through the village, the freshly laundered tablecloths from The Black Swan pub snapped in the wind, bickering with each other. She waved at Marcel the owner, who was sitting outside the pub drinking a coffee and reading the paper. Marcel made a lovely crab bisque with croutons, which was old-fashioned, but Port Lowdy was that sort of place. This suited Tressa. She painted old-fashioned pictures that weren’t popular with the art market but they made her happy.

Penny Stanhope the postmistress waved as she turned over the Closed sign on the door. The post office also served as the bank, the local passport office, and the insurance office. Penny sold chutneys and jams made by some of the local women and questionable shell craft with googly eyes and the occasional diamante for pizazz. Port Lowdy didn’t really do pizazz so the shell craft didn’t sell but the jams were popular.

The bakery with its striped red awning was already open, the Cornish pasties just out of the oven and the scones rising for morning tea. There was a small garden out the side of the bakery with a white picket fence where tourists could eat their Cornish cream tea under the apple trees and watch the passing foot traffic.

Tressa pedalled up the small hill and came to the front of the little office that was both the headquarters of The Port Lowdy Occurrence and the local car rental in the summer. She pushed open the door, trying to balance the bike and the heavy wood door. She took off her bicycle helmet and felt her curls spring outwards in protest after the short ride.

Tressa’s black curls had a life of their own. Her brother didn’t get them, in fact, no one knew where the curly hair gene had come from in the Buckland family. Everyone else was blonde and brown-eyed but Tressa had dark hair and blue eyes. As a child, she used to pore over the family tree in the old family Bible on the bookshelf. Her curls were from ancestors unknown, and it always gave Tressa a thrill to think of the relative who bequeathed the hair to her, generations later, like a charm. Her skill for drawing was also an unclaimed talent: no one could see where it came from in the family tree. Tressa cherished these differences because they made her special – and God knows it was hard to be special in her family.

Anything for a peaceful life, her boss George Fox said, and she agreed. George was the owner and editor of The Port Lowdy Occurrence. It was just the two of them working at the Occurrence, but the paper made enough to pay her wage and keep George in whisky, and it funded his passion for antiques. They were busy enough through advertising from the fishing and holiday community and George had business all over Cornwall, with the car rental in the summer and numerous other fingers in other Cornish pasties.

The Dog Sitter by Zara Stoneley

Today I am excited to share with you my review of this brilliant romantic comedy from Zara Stoneley. Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to join the tour, and for my copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description

One dog. Two strangers. An unfurgettable romance.

Wanted: someone nice, normal and trustworthy to housesit a beautiful cottage in the Lake District while the owner is away on a business trip. Must like dogs.

Wanting to escape from crap bosses and useless boyfriends, Becky jumps at the chance of being a dog sitter and the perfect escape – rest, relaxation and a very cute pooch called Bella.

But looking after Bella comes with a catch, namely gorgeous, brooding, Chris Hemsworth-worthy Ash James, who claims Bella is his dog and will stop at nothing to get her back!

Becky’s not about to hand over lovely Bella to any Tom, Dick or Ash.  She’s determined to watch every move Ash James makes…even if it gets her very hot under the collar.

My Review
This is such a fun and romantic read that I loved from beginning to end.
First we meet Becky, an illustrator who's confidence is at an all time low as she has just been dumped by her boyfriend and also lost her job.
Becky decides she needs to get away for a while to take her mind off of her ex, and after seeing an advert for a house sitter/Dog sitter in a beautiful home in the Lake District Becky is soon packing her bags and heading for some much needed escapism.
After a very eventful journey Becky finally arrives at the house and meets the very lively and adorable Cockapoo Bella.
Along with looking after Bella comes a long list of rules as Bella is a big Instagram star. The main rule though is that Becky is to never let Ash, Georgie's ex to ever get his hands on Bella. Becky is also forbidden to even talk to Ash.
Ash does arrive at the house to see Bella and Becky is shocked by how handsome Ash is and it is obvious just how much he also loves Bella too.
Becky is determined that Ash will not get Bella, but the more she gets to see him the more she likes him. Maybe he isn't such a bad guy after all and it helps that he is just so handsome. Maybe it isn't just Bella that is enjoying being around Ash either.
This is such a wonderful, fun and romantic read that I loved. The setting of the book within the Lake District does sound idyllic and the perfect place to mend a broken heart. It is also the perfect spot for Becky to make some decisions about her future and does make her feel more creative again.
The character of Becky was so lovely to get to know. She loves her job and has worked hard to get to where she is. She has lost confidence in herself after the toxic relationship she was in but it is great to see that grow again while she is away.
The handsome Ash sounds positively dreamy and you can easily see why Becky finds him so attractive. He does have some secrets in his past though which come to light as the story progresses and you realise just how much he needs Bella.
Bella the delightful Cockapoo is definitely the star of this book and I enjoyed reading all of the mischief she can get into and tricks that she can perform.
This book is so much fun to read the story flows well and has a brilliant balance of both sentiment and humour. Some parts will really make you laugh out loud.
This is another outstanding read from Zara Stoneley and is one not to be missed.

Friends With Benefits by Lisa Swift

Today is my stop on the Blog Tour for this feel good romantic release from Lisa Swift. Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to take part in the tour, and for my copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description

Could Mr Right-Now actually be Mr Right?

Lexie Whittle thought she had life all sewn up, with a gorgeous husband, a beautiful home, and an utterly delightful teenage stepson. Until husband Daryl announced he was leaving to work overseas… and everything changed.

A year later, Daryl and Lexie’s marriage is practically over. Lexie is fighting to stay on top of the bills, juggling her job at the Blue Parrot 1940s cafe in Leyholme with being mum and dad to Connor in Daryl’s absence.

The only thing keeping her sane is the support she gets from Connor’s godfather: Theo Blake, Daryl’s former business partner. Theo might be a jack-the-lad, drifting from one woman to another, but Lexie knows she and Connor can always depend on him in times of need.

After one too many glasses of wine leads to them falling into bed together, Lexie and Theo begin a friends-with-benefits relationship. It starts as just sex, but it doesn’t take long for deeper feelings to develop.

But when Daryl returns, Lexie is faced with some difficult decisions. Will she be forced to choose between her love for Theo and the boy she sees as a son?

My Review
This was such a fun read and one that I devoured in one sitting.
Life did not plan out the way that Lexie had ever imagined. She thought she had it all until one day everything changed and now she is both Mum and Dad to her wonderful Step Son Connor.
Lexie has now found herself working in the quirky 1940s themed Cafe in Leyholme. Life is not always easy for Lexie but luckily she has the support of Theo. Theo is Godfather to Connor and is also her colleague at the Blue Parrot. He is always there for help and support and also to be a good friend to Lexie.
Things change for the two of them over a drunken night together and they end up in bed together. This was never part of Lexie's plan but the two of them come to an arrangement that they will become friends with benefits.
Things are going well for the pair of them but soon they both begin to fall deeper into their relationship and it is no longer just about the sex.
Things take a dramatic turn when Daryl reappears on the scene and leaves Lexie with some difficult decisions to make. Either way someone is going to get hurt. Just which way will she decide.
This is not your traditional Romantic comedy book it is so much more. It is full of drama and love, with so many twists to the story that really keep you engaged from the first page to the last.
I enjoyed getting to know all of the main characters and seeing how their relationship are all connected to each other.
Connor is wise beyond his 14 years and has such a sensible head on his shoulders, but he also has a venerable side too.
Lexie has had to be strong this last year being both Mum and Dad to Connor a role which she never saw coming and sure she is failing at. She is stronger than she realises and this shows as you read through the book.
The very handsome Theo is a wonderful support to Lexie and its clear how just how much he loves her and Connor.
There are also a cast of characters from the village within the book that also form part of the story and the lives of Lexie, Connor and Theo.
I really like the style of writing within the book. It is very witty and engaging and really has a way of drawing you into the story and the lives of Lexie, Connor and Theo.
This was the first book I have read from Lisa Swift but I will certainly be adding more to my collection.

Married at First Swipe by Claire Frost

Today is my stop on the Blog Tour for this brilliant, fun, witty and heartwarming new release from Claire Frost. Thank you to Simon and Schuster UK for inviting me to join the tour and for my copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description
The brand new novel from the author of acclaimed debut Living My Best Life. Perfect for fans of Helly Acton, Mhairi McFarlane and Laura Jane Williams.

Hannah lives life on the edge. Never one to pass up on a new adventure, she has truly been living her best life. But once the adrenaline wears off, she wishes she had someone to spend the quieter moments with too. Jess has been with her husband for twenty years. They have a stable marriage, great kids and run their own businesses. But what looks like a perfect life from the outside has its own problems within, and with her business on the brink Jess can’t help but wonder where the spark has gone in her life, and whether settling down is all it’s cracked up to be.

When Hannah embarks upon her latest scheme: finding a man using Jess’s dating app and meeting him for the first time at the altar, both women start to realise the grass isn't always greener. Can Hannah help her friend save her failing business or will Jess stop her from making what could be the biggest mistake of her life?

In the modern tech-fuelled world of dating, is it possible to find true love?

My Review
This was such a fun and witty read that really had me absorbed from beginning to end and I simply could not put it down.
Best friends Hannah and Jess could not be more different. Jess has been with her husband Tom for twenty years and is all settled in life with a lovely home and two children. Jess has not settled down yet and is till renting herself a flat. She has spent the last few years travelling the globe and has had some amazing experiences but now is feeling like she needs to settle down and think of her future. The two them have been best friends since school and are now working together on a dating app that was set up by Jess. The app has been success to date but now needs more to keep their revenue coming in and expand the business.
After yet another disastrous date for Hannah the two of them hatch a plan that Jess will use her dating app to try and find a new man for her the only thing is Hannah will not meet him until their wedding day!
Jess and Hannah then embark on their new plan which becomes more and more of an event and adventure for them both.
The planning of finding the right man for Hannah and planing the wedding for them both is so exciting to Jess and she is loving building her business and watching it grow. The only issue is that it is putting a strain on her marriage, something that she is keen to hide from Hannah.
As the wedding gets closer things become more difficult for both Hannah and Jess could their plan backfire and leave them both realising what really is most important in life and will love conquer all?
This was such a brilliant read and a book you can really get swept away reading. I really enjoyed the engaging style of reading and found it to be a fun and witty read as well as heartwarming.
Hannah and Jess were both fun to get to know. They are both very different but you can also see why they are the best of friends. They are both such a support to each other.
I thought the concept of the story was fun and quirky and very much needed at the moment. I also enjoyed haw the story was told from both the aspect of Hannah and Jess so you could see how they were both reacted to the plans being made.
This is a story full of fun, laughter friendship and love and one I found simply a delight to read.
