The Ring Of Gilly Wood by Ruth Banister

The Ring of Gilly Wood
by
Ruth Banister

Today I am on the blog tour for this release from Ruth Banister. Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to take part and I hop boy enjoy my review.

Book description
‘There he is,’ whispered Vixen. ‘It’s true then,’ said Buck Rabbit. ‘He’s just a small mole,’ said Doe Rabbit. ‘He’s not just a mole,’ said Vixen.  A great queen loses a ring. Hundreds of years later a ring slips onto the paw of a young mole. The mole grows to be a wise and trusted leader of Gilly Wood and all the animals that live there. But a great threat is coming. Can one small mole save a whole valley? Mole sets out to do just that with friends he makes along the way and the strange thing on his paw…

My Review
This is a really interesting read that will be enjoyed by both adults and children. I really enjoyed reading this from start to finish and in was really drawn into the lives of Owl and Mole.
I loved how the story started by setting out some history of the area, including the river and the woods. About how the ring became under the tree after a visit from the queen many years ago.
Mole is a very lovable character who has the leadership of Gilly Wood thrust upon him after he finds a ring attached to his foot and the other animals in the wood believe him to be wise. They all start to come to him with their issues and he is able to solve them. I also really enjoy watching the relationship between Mole and Owl develop and when the wood is under attack from poachers then they both hatch a plan to keep them all safe and protect the woods. It isn't long before Mole and Owl find out that the woods are under threat, they could lose their homes and they need to protect it at all costs.
This is a great read that can be read by both adults and children and would be a good book to share at bedtime. The book flows really well and you get a good understanding of how the animals lived.

The Hopes and Dreams of Lucy Baker by Jenni Keer

The Hopes and Dreams of Lucy Baker
by
Jenni Keer

Today I am on the blog tour for this fantastic read from Jenni Keer.  Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to take part in the tour. I hope you enjoy my review.

Book Description
Meet Lucy, aged 25, and Brenda, aged 79. Neighbours and unlikely friends.
Lucy Baker is not your usual 25-year-old. She is more at home reading and knitting in her cluttered little flat than going out partying and socialising.
79-year-old Brenda is full of wise and wonderful advice, but when she’s diagnosed with dementia her life begins to change. Before her memories slip away for ever, Brenda is desperate to fulfil one last wish – to see Lucy happy.
Gifting Lucy the locket that helped Brenda find her own true love, she hopes to push her reticent neighbour in the right direction. But is Lucy Baker ready for the opportunities and heartbreaks of the real world? It’s about time she put her knitting needles aside and found out...
The Hopes and Dreams of Lucy Baker will be the most charming, heart-warming and feel- good novel you will read this year, perfect for fans of Ruth Hogan and Gail Honeyman.

My Review
This is the debut novel from Jenni Keer. I was so excited to read it and I was not disappointed, once I started reading I was so absorbed and I couldn't put it down!
This is such a lovely warm and feel good read that is also tinged with sadness. Lucy is 25 years old and has a huge passion for knitting. She lives alone in a flat that is joined to the house next door. This is where her neighbour and close friend, Brenda lives. Brenda is quite eccentric and quirky but she really does love Lucy and gives plenty of advice to help build up Lucy's self confidence which is really low. Once it becomes clear to Lucy that Brenda's health is failing she shows a great deal of warmth and care and thinks nothing of caring for her, she even ropes in the grumpy new neighbour, George, that has moved into the other flat in the block. Brenda has decided that her wish before she becomes to ill is to see Lucy happy so she hatches a plan and gives Lucy a locket that comes with some very special instructions. there are some very funny moments for Lucy and her friend Jess as they try and follow all of the instructions they are given with some hilarious consequences.
This is a very well written story that flows really well and gives you plenty of supporting characters who also have plenty of secrets which unfold as the story goes along.  Jenni obviously has done some good research on Dementia as she describes the symptoms that Brenda suffers from in great detail and she shows a great deal of compassion as she writes.
I thoroughly enjoyed this debut book from Jenni Keer and I'm eagerly anticipating the adventure her next book will take us on.

Love heart Lane by Christie Barlow

Love heart Lane
by
Christie Barlow

Today is publication day for this fantastic read from Christie Barlow and I'm really looking forward to sharing my review with you.

Book Description

When Flick Simons returns to the small village of Heartcross she only expected to stay for a few days. The white-washed cottages of Love Heart Lane might be her home, but the place holds too many painful memories, and of one man in particular – Fergus Campbell.
When a winter storm sweeps in, the only bridge connecting the village to the main land is swept away! As the villagers pull together, Flick finds herself welcomed back by the friends she once left behind. And as the snow begins to melt, maybe there is a chance that Fergus’s heart will thaw too…

My Review
This is a cosy and heart warming read that'll have you hooked in after just a few pages. Set in the Scottish Highlands, within the village of Heartcross. Flick is taking a much needed break from her mundane job in London and heading back to Heartcross, the village she grew up in, to visit her mother after the death of her grandmother.
Flick Arrives during a huge snowstorm, one that Heartcross has not had for years but all of the villagers are prepared. It isn't long before Flick is settling back into village life and she is soon considering making a drastic change in her life and returning to the village, and reopening the tea rooms of her late grandmother. It was with the heart of the village on Love Heart Lane. Most of the residents welcome Flick back with open arms, however the welcome she receives from her ex boyfriend Fergus is decidedly frosty. As you read the book you learn more about their past relationship and the reason for them both to feel heartbroken.
While Flick is staying in Heartcross life is far from dull, as a vicious winter storm hits the town and Flick is soon drawn into being part of the village community again.
I loved the setting for this book and I really loved the community feel that this book creates. I think the character of Flick is someone that is maybe feeling a little lost and confused about where her life's going. Once she gets back to Heartcross, where she grew up things start to change for her.
The cover for this book is really eye-catching and certainly caught my eye. The colours work so well and gives you a clue of what the village may look like.
This was the first book I have read by Christie and I am so excited to learn there are going to be more in this series. While I wait for the next one to be released I will be adding more titles to my TBR pile.

This book is published on 11th January 2019 and is available from Amazon.

I want to say Thank you to Christie Barlow, HarperImpulse and Netgalley for my copy of this book for me to review.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I hope you enjoyed it.

A Greek Affair by Linn B Halton

A Greek Affair
by
Linn B. Halton

Happy New Year!
So my first blog post of 2019 is for this amazing read from Linn B.Halton. Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to take part in the blog tour. I hope you all enjoy my review.

Book Description
More than just a holiday romance?
Her daughter, her job and divorcing her untrustworthy ex are Leah’s main priorities. She isn’t really bothered that her life might be missing a few things. But after winning a prestigious travel blogger award, she’s inundated with offers to review glamorous holiday destinations. Lying around drinking exotic cocktails and being paid for it! What could be better?

Perhaps a romantic trip to idyllic Greece to find the one man who might make Leah risk her heart again...

My Review
This book is such a treat and perfect for bringing a ray of sunshine to a grey and dreary January day. Leah is finally getting back on top of life after the devastation caused by her ex husband living her high and dry with their 2 year old daughter, Rosie, and a mountain of debt. Leah has worked hard to give herself and Rosie a better life and all that pays off after Leah wins a travel Blogging award, giving her blog the boost it needs to allow Leah to work on it full time. This gives her more time with Rosie and gives them more chances of  luxurious trips away together. It is on one of these five star trips that Leah and Rosie have the opportunity to visit Greece. It is on this trip that they meet up with Daniel and his daughter Bella. They spend the days together seeing the iconic sights that Greece has to offer and it isn't long before there is a spark between Leah and Daniel, one that Leah is keen to dismiss as she doesn't want to get her heart broken again but is it worth the risk of finding happiness?
This book is so descriptive and you can almost feel the sun shining down on you and have you reaching for a chilled glass of wine. Linn does a fantastic job of describing all of the sights in Greece making you feel as if you are there visiting them too. I really liked the character of Leah, you can see she has been through a rough time with her ex husband and you can see how this has made her stronger and more determined to succeed at everything she does. I think that Daniel sounds like he has been through a lot in his life and is doing all he can for his daughter Bella.
I really enjoyed reading this book from start to finish and I'm looking forward to seeing what Linn brings us next.

25 days Til Christmas by Poppy Alexander

25 Days Til Christmas
by
Poppy Alexander

I am so excited to bring you my review of this festive read as part of the blog tour for this amazing read from Poppy Alexander. Thank you to Orion Publishing for my copy of this book.  I hope you enjoy my review.

Book Description
Christmas is a time to get together...
Kate Thompson used to love Christmas. But that was before her husband went away with the army and didn't come home. Now she can hardly stand the festive season.
But Kate knows there is more to life than this, and her son Jack needs a Christmas to remember. What she needs is a Christmas miracle, and if there isn't one on its way, she'll just have to make her own.
So begins Kate's advent countdown to the best Christmas ever. She has it all planned out, but you can't plan for the unexpected, and when her life starts to unravel can her friends and the community around her help her save Christmas for all of them...?
Curl up and countdown to Christmas with a heart-warming festive romance, perfect for fans of Jenny Colgan, Debbie Johnson, and Holly Martin.

My Review
This is a heart warming, uplifting and very enjoyable Christmas read that will stay with you long after you have read the last page.
Kate is struggling with dealing with life as a single parent after the death of her husband who went away with the army and she never saw him again. She is low on money, low on morale and in desperate need of a Christmas miracle to help her get through the festive season and make it enjoyable for her son Jack.  With the help of her good friend, Seema and her stationary collection they are soon planning a countdown to Christmas one that will make Kate step out of her comfort zone and start to live her life again making plenty of new memories with Jack.
As the days progress nearer to Christmas and Kate and Jack are having fun together, however the worry of Kate not having enough money and the threat of her job not being secure is never too far from Kate's mind. As the days progress Kate has many challenges thrown at her and she wonders how she can manage all that is coning her way, thank goodness for her good friends who help her along the way and help Kate keep smiling.
I really enjoyed reading about Kate and I loved how no matter what life threw at her she kept on doing the best she could for Jack who is her world. I felt she was a very strong character and displayed a great deal of strength even if she didn't feel that strong.
Daniel is dealing with the death of his wife, Zoe and he is not looking forward to his first Christmas without her. To keep himself busy and not give him too much time on his own Daniel volunteers on a crisis helpline and this makes him feel like he is giving something back to society. Once you get to know more about Daniel you realise that he is the one that needs help and friendship. The two stories are intertwined so well within the book as Daniel knows Kate as Christmas tree girl and they both flow very well together.
I really enjoyed this festive story and I'm sure you will love it too.

This book was published on !st November 2018 and is available on kindle published by Orion.

About the Author
Poppy Alexander wrote her first book when she was five. There was a long gap in her writing career while she was at school, and after studying classical music at university, she decided the world of music was better off without her and took up public relations, campaigning, political lobbying and a bit of journalism instead. She takes an anthropological interest in family, friends and life in her West Sussex village (think, The Archers crossed with Twin Peaks) where she lives with her husband, children and various other pets. Poppy also writes as Rosie Howard and Sarah Waights.

Christmas at the Chocolate Pot Cafe by Jessica Redland

Christmas at the Chocolate Pot Cafe
by
Jessica Redland

So today I am excited to bring you my review for this festive read from Jessica Redland. Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to take part. I hope you enjoy reading my review.

Book Description
A few minutes of courage might change your life...
Emotionally, Tara Porter finds the festive period a challenge. Christmas Day is a reminder of the family she lost, and New Year’s Eve holds bitter memories of the biggest mistake of her life: marrying Garth Tewkesbury. Shunning invitations to celebrate, she seeks refuge in her flat with only her giant house bunny, Hercules, for company.
Professionally, though, it’s the best time of year. Tara’s thriving café, The Chocolate Pot, is always packed. With the café hosting a wedding and engagement party, it’s shaping up to be the café’s best Christmas ever.
When former nemesis, Jed Ferguson, threatens the future of The Chocolate Pot, Tara prepares for a fight. The café is everything to her and she’s not going to let anyone or anything jeopardise that.
Tara badly misjudged ex-husband Garth and, since then, has refused to let anyone in. After all, if you don’t let them in, they can’t hurt you. But has she misjudged Jed too? Is it possible that he’s not the arrogant, deceitful man from whom she bought the café 14 years earlier? Can she find the courage to find out for sure?

My Review
This is a brilliant, heart-warming read that I loved from start to finish. it was so difficult to put down and I read it in one sitting.
Tara has had a very hard and difficult past that she has kept secret for such a long time however the Christmas season seems to be the time former to start letting people into what happened in her past and she starts sharing her life story with her best friend Carly.
As she starts to reveal parts of her past you being to realise why she is the way she is and its great to see more of her character develop.
The setting of this book follows on from the the authors previous books set in Whitsborough Bay, however this book can be read as standalone read.
This is a great book to read at Christmas however it isn't your typical festive story which can make a nice change at this time of year.  I loved reading this book and getting to know all of the characters from Whitsborough Bay and I loved as I have not read any of the previous books that are set there, however I will be adding them to my kindle library very soon.

She lives on the stunning North Yorkshire Coast — the inspiration for the settings in her books — with her husband, daughter, cat, Sprocker Spaniel, and an ever-growing collection of collectible teddy bears.
