Mavis And Dot by Angela Petch

Mavis And Dot
by
Angela Petch

So today Im on the blog tour for this amazing read from Angela Dot. Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me total part. I hope you enjoy reading my review.

Book Description
A warm slice of life, funny, feel-good, yet poignant. Introducing two eccentric ladies who form an unlikely friendship.Meet Mavis and Dot - two colourful, retired ladies who live in Worthington-on-Sea, where there are charity shops galore. Apart from bargain hunting, they manage to tangle themselves in escapades involving illegal immigrants, night clubs, nude modelling, errant toupees and more. And then there’s Mal, the lovable dog who nobody else wants. A gently humorous, often side-splitting, heart-warming snapshot of two memorable characters with past secrets and passions. Escape for a couple of hours into this snapshot of a faded, British seaside town. You'll laugh and cry but probably laugh more."This book is quirky and individual, and has great pathos...[it] will resonate with a lot of readers." Gill Kaye - Editor of Ingenu(e). Written with a light touch in memory of a dear friend who passed away from ovarian cancer, Angela Petch’s seaside tale is a departure from her successful Tuscan novels.

All profits from the sale of the books will go towards research into the cure for cancer.

My Review
This is such a funny and heart warming read that is perfect to escape in and will stay with you long after you put the book down.  Mavis and Dot are like chalk and cheese but between them they strike up up a close friendship after a disastrous meeting at a card game. Mavis and Dot are both retired ladies who live in the seaside town of Worthington-On-Sea. They are both very colourful ladies who don't always agree on things and both have very different views on life. This however seems to make their bond stronger and they realise how much they need each other in their lives.
Mavis and Dot both have secrets from their pasts that they are slowly sharing with each other and they realise just how different their lives were from each other. Its great to watch their relationship change and get stronger as they get to know more and more about each other.
Between them both they have plenty of adventures together which will have you laughing out loud. I loved reading about their trip to Italy together and I really laughed at Mavis visiting a nightclub! They both share a lot of bargain hunting and love spending time have a rummage at their local charity shops followed up by a good cup of tea. I think both of the ladies show a huge amount of courage with the events that are happening round them and they both feel the need to be supportive too each other too.
I loved reading about Mavis and Dot and their lives. I love the eccentricity of them both and how they are both getting on with their retirement.
This is a fantastic read and all of the profits from the book will go towards research into the cure for cancer which I think is a great cause.

Author Bio

A prize-winning author, Angela Petch lives half the year in West Sussex and the summer months in a remote valley in the Tuscan Apennines. She recently signed a two-book deal with Bookouture for her Tuscan novels and “Mavis and Dot” is a temporary departure from her usual genre. She has travelled all her life: born in Germany, she spent six years as a child living in Rome, worked in Amsterdam after finishing her degree in Italian, moved to Italy for her job, then to Tanzania for three years. Her head is full of stories and she always carries a pen and note-book to capture more ideas.
In May 2017, Angela Petch won PRIMA’S monthly short story competition and recently had a dozen stories published by The People’s Friend magazine.
“Mavis and Dot” was written in memory of a dear friend who lost her battle with ovarian cancer. All profits from sales of the book will go towards research into a cure for cancer.

Thanks so much for inviting Mavis and Dot onto your lovely blog. They'll have tea instead of coffee (but I love your blog name!). Love that you enjoyed their eccentricity and thanks for spreading the word! There will be more adventures in the future.
