The Truth about Love and Dogs by Lilly Bartlett

Today I am so excited to share with you my review of this amazing read from Lilly Bartlett. I was sent a copy of this by Michele Gorman in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description
Four little words, uttered by her husband…
‘Oh my god,’ he gasped into her shoulder. ‘Shannon!’
There’s just one problem: her name isn’t Shannon.

Rewind six months and Scarlett and Rufus aren’t in the honeymoon stage anymore so much as the honey-should-we-bother phase. Desperate to get their sparkle back, Scarlett has plotted, planned and waxed more than any woman should have to, but none of it is working. Which makes it very hard to start the family they want.

At least her business is going strong, even if her marriage isn’t. She and her best friend spend their days tangled up in dog leads and covered in fur. Scarlett is the fairy dogmother, training hopeless pets like compulsive eater Barkley, impulsive Romeo Murphy and bossy Biscuit. Meanwhile, her best friend walks the dogs and pines for the man who doesn’t know she exists. Thank goodness the women have each other.

If only Scarlett could work out how to get her marriage back on track. But Rufus isn’t sharing his feelings with her. He is, though, sharing with her best friend. Her best friend, Shannon.

Meet your new best friends in the witty, uplifting, utterly hilarious tale that will make you laugh, cry and say “I know the feeling”. Perfect for fans of Marley and Me, Marian Keyes and Jenny Colgan!

This romcom was originally titled Love is a Four-Legged Word by Michele Gorman.

My Review
This is a romantic, heart warming and funny read that will have you absorbed from the first page to the last. Scarlett is running a very successful business as a dog trainer alongside her best friend Shannon. Scarlett loves her job and is very good at it. She gets to meet some fantastic and sometimes chaotic dogs and their owners which often result in hilarious situations and this will really have you laughing out loud.
Rufus is Scarlett's Husband. Rufus and Scarlett met while they were both travelling in Australia and they have been happy together ever since. Except things are now starting to cause friction within their marriage. There is one thing that they both feel would make their relationship complete however, things are not going to plan and life is causing them both feel stressed. this is then having an impact on the relationship. Neither of them seem to be very open with each other which is not helping the situation. Will they be able to resolve their issues and open up to each other before it is too late?
I loved reading this book. You get a fantastic insight into the lives of Scarlett and Rufus and you begin to understand why things may be going wrong and how they can help each other.  There are some fantastic characters within the story which help you learn more about the relationship between Scarlett and Rufus. There is Shannon who has a crush on a man she sees on her dog walk everyday but she has yet to speak to due to her shyness. Shannon was first friends with Rufus but has now become best friends with Scarlett too and is doing everything she can to help them both stop their relationship falling apart. There are some brilliant and hilarious dogs who have chaotic relationships with their owners and although these are not main characters they do have a very important part of the story in the lives of Rufus and Scarlett. I loved this book from start to finish and I'm looking forward to seeing what Lilly Bartlett will be writing next.
