Island in the Sun by Janice Horton

Today I am pleased to be able to share with you my review of this heartwarming read of love and loss by the brilliant Janice Horton as part of her blog tour.  Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources for inviting me to take part and for my copy of the book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description
When successful jewellery designer Isla Ashton unexpectedly inherits her eccentric Aunt Kate’s Caribbean island, she is obligated to return to the place she associates with heartache and regret. To where she grew up and fell in love with her childhood friend, Leo Fernandez. Fully intent on selling the island and finally putting the past behind her, Isla is soon compelled to put together the pieces of what really happened on a fateful night ten- years before. She begins to believe that in going to prison, Leo hadn’t only been shielding her from the same fate. She also starts to suspect that her late Aunt hadn’t been entirely honest in sending her away under the guise of recriminations. Who had they both been protecting and why?

My Review
Isla is shocked when she hears that her Aunt Kate has passed away and is further shocked to hear that she has inherited the Caribbean Island that her Aunt Kate owned, especially after she has had no contact with her aunt for ten years after she was sent away from the Island. As part of the inheritance Isla has to return to Pearl Island to hear the reading of the will and get a better understanding of what her inheritance will entail.
Once Isla returns to Pearl Island she starts to rebuild the lost relationship with the housekeeper Grave and she also takes a tour of the Island she once called home to see how much had changed. It's while on the tour that she finds a new business set up on the island, she then finds out the owner of the business is Leo, her childhood friend from the Island who she fell in love with.
With finding out after the reading of the will that she is in fact the new owners Pearl Island, Isla is set on selling the Island on quickly so that she is able to return to her life in Scotland and carry on building the business that she owns.
Things however don't go to plan and after finding and reading her Aunt Kate's journals she soon is getting more of an insight into the island and her Aunts past. Will this be enough to make Isla stay on Pearl Island or make her more determined to sell.
This is a brilliant read that is a perfect for injecting some much needed sunshine on a cold and grey March morning. Pearl Island sounds idilic with the blue skies, bright sunshine and  its historic charm.
I really liked the character of Isla she is a strong feisty and independent woman. she was taken to the island after the death of her parents and brought up by her Aunt Kate, but at  the age of sixteen suddenly left the island and had to do some growing up very quickly. She is keen to build her business and sever all ties with the Island because most of her memories there are not happy ones. It is only once she stays on the island that her happier memories begin to surface. You do understand Isla's feeling towards her aunt and the Island as you read through the book.
The Character of Leo is a great one to read as you get to know more about him through the journals of Kate and you understand the history and past he has had. You get to know the real Leo as you read the book and you will be surprised by the outcome.
I really loved how when you read the book you are transported back and forth through time as you read the extracts from Kates journals this gives an interesting take on the background of all the characters and lets you know the past of them all.
The cover of the book is beautiful and brightly coloured which perfectly reflects the description on Pearl Island within the book.
I really enjoyed reading this book is was highly addictive and kept me absorbed from the first page to the last. I am looking forward to reading the next adventure that Janice Horton will be taking us on.
