Bonnie and Stan by Anna Stuart

Today I am pleased to be sharing with you my review of this feel good story of love and loss by Anna Stuart. Thank you to Tracy Fenton of Compulsive readers for inviting me to join the tour and for my copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description
Bonnie and Stan are soulmates. They met during the Swinging Sixties, to the soundtrack of The Beatles and the Merseybeat scene. Now they've grown up and grown old together, had children and grandchildren. They are finally building their dream home, when disaster strikes.
Stan is running out of time, and can't bear the thought of leaving Bonnie alone. Alongside his teenage granddaughter Greya, he forms a plan to find Bonnie a new love of her life. And she must never find out...
Bonnie & Stan is a poignant, surprising love story set during the Swinging Sixties and the present day. Ultimately feel-good and full of emotion, Bonnie & Stan will make your heart sing.

My Review
Bonnie and Stan have been in love since the swinging sixties and have built up a fantastic life around them, full of love for their children, grandchildren and their love for each other. They have both worked hard to build up successful lives and they have finally started to build their dream house together which has been designed by Bonnie. All of this comes crashing down around them after their shock of Stan being diagnosed with terminal cancer. All of the family rallies around him to offer support and they are all determined to help Stan find a cure and get better especially Bonnie who refuses to accept that he isn't going to get better.
Stan is worried that when he is gone, Bonnie will be alone, he knows that their children will be around as well as their grandchildren, however he worried about the smaller things, like Bonnie not being able to lift the roast out of the oven and having no one to talk to. So with the help of his Granddaughter, Greya he sets up a profile on a dating site so that he can chose somebody to be around for Bonnie. This involves him meeting up with potential suitors for Bonnie and deciding if they will be good enough for her or not in his absence.
This book is a look through he life of Bonnie, Stan and their family as they get on with their lives dealing with Stan's diagnosis and where it will lead them all.
The book doesn't just cover the lives of Bonnie and Stan as adults it also covers how they met in the Swinging Sixties in Liverpool. Here you see them at eighteen years old and just starting out. There are some fantastic references to some very famous faces from the Merseybeat scene and really gives you a great insight into that era. They way these two stories are so well woven together is perfect and both sides of the story are both addictive and highly enjoyable.
I really liked getting to know both Bonnie and Stan they are both very like able characters and its so emotional reading just how much they are going to miss each other. You also get to meet their family and friends within the book too who are all also going through a tough time thinking of a life without Stan in it.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I was absorbed from the first page to the last. This book will make you shed a few tears but will also lift you heart too, which will stay with you long after you have finished the book.

About the Author
Anna Stuart has wanted to be a writer ever since she sat up in her cot with a book. For years she wrote short stories and serials for the women's magazines before being published by Pan Macmillan as a historical novelist under the pseudonym Joanna Courtney. Her Queens of the Conquest series, set in the pre-1066 years, has been published to acclaim in all formats including audiobook and been translated for European markets but she is delighted to return to the contemporary world for Bonnie & Stan.
