Five Steps to Happy by Ella Dove

Today I am excited to be kicking off the blog tour and sharing with you my review of this amazing debut read from Ella Dove. Thank you to Tracy Fenton of Compulsive Readers for my copy of the book in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Book Description

Life can change in a heartbeat...
When struggling actress Heidi has a life-changing accident aged 32, her world falls apart. Stuck in hospital and unable to walk, her only companion is Maud, the elderly lady in the bed next to hers. Heidi misses her flatmate, her life, her freedom - surely 32 is too young to be an amputee?
But when Maud's aloof but attractive grandson Jack pays a visit to the ward, Heidi realises that her life isn't over just because it's different. It might not look like the life she dreamed of, but it's the one she's got - and there's a lot she still wants to tick off her bucket list. With Jack at her side, will Heidi take the first step back to happiness? Or is there one more surprise still in store...?

My Review
This is an absolutely addictive and gripping read that I loved from the first page to the last and couldn't put down.
Heidi is enjoying her life, she is an actress waiting for her big break and is making the most of her life by meeting up with friends and working hard. This all changes in an instant when Heidi has an accident while out jogging. This causes life changing injuries and sets Heidi's life on a new course.
The first Heidi knows of her injury is when she wakes up in hospital and is shocked to find out what has happened.
With thoughts of her changes in her life and not knowing how things are going to work Heidi finds herself in a rehabilitation centre, she's struggling to deal with her new life, she is stuck in the centre for six weeks as she learns to live with her prosthetic leg. She misses her old life but does make friends with her elderly room mate Maud and is soon making friends with Maud's Grandson Jack. Jack starts to visit Heidi too and he is soon helping Heidi along the way and build her confidence and help her get back to being herself. Will Jack be the one to help Heidi find her way back to happiness?
This is such a thought provoking read that is full of highs and lows along the way. Ella Dove has given us a fantastic insight into what she went through in her own life as this story mirrors her life and what happened to her too. There were times I could feel my eyes filling with tears over the sadness that Heidi was going through but there was happiness too when Heidi seems to find strength and move forward with her life.
I think Ella has been really brave in telling us her story and i really did enjoy reading it and I'm really looking forward to reading more from her.
